Rooted in History
The D'Olive family tree begins with Dominique D'Olive, born in Tillac, Gers, France, baptized in 1741. He crossed the Atlantic under the command of Governor Bienville, helped found the city of Mobile, and was granted 1,200 acres of Spanish land along the eastern shore of Mobile Bay in 1787.
From Dominique and his wife Marie, nine children were born — each carrying the D'Olive name into a new generation of American history. The family's roots run deep in Baldwin County, Alabama, where their legacy endures in place names, cemeteries, and living descendants to this day.
First Generation
1741 – 1803
Dominique D'Olive
Captain under Governor Bienville. Granted 1,200 acres Spanish Land Grant 1787. Helped found Mobile, Alabama. Married Marie, 1772. Father of nine children.
Marie D'Olive
Wife of Dominique D'Olive. Mother of nine children. Buried at the D'Olive family cemetery on the original land grant.
Second Generation
1770s – 1850s
Louis D'Olive
Inherited the 1,200-acre estate. Built La Belle Rose Hotel, sawmill, and brickyard. Supplied bricks for Fort Morgan. Survived Creek War attack of 1813. Recorded in 1820 census with 25 residents on the estate.
Third Generation
1800s – 1880s
Ruben H. L. D'Olive
Carried the D'Olive name through the antebellum and Civil War era. Witnessed the Union troop occupation of the family estate in 1865.
Fourth Generation
1850s – 1920s
Joseph Morgan D'Olive
Preserved family traditions and land ties through the Reconstruction era and into the early 20th century.
Fifth Generation
1880s – 1960s
Chester M. D'Olive Sr.
Continued the D'Olive family legacy into the 20th century, maintaining family ties and community presence.
Edward D. D'Olive
Married Mattie Lee D'Olive. Together they carried the family name and traditions forward through the mid-20th century.
Silas Sedoin D'Olive
A distinguished member of the D'Olive family, carrying the lineage through the early and mid-20th century.
Sixth Generation
1920s – 1990s
Chester M. D'Olive Jr.

The D'Olive Coat of Arms
Gules with three gold bands — traced to William III of Olive/Olivier. The blazon carried by Dominique D'Olive from France to the New World, and borne by his descendants to this day.
